Adventure is one of the most interesting genres of video games. These games don’t have any specific mechanic or parameter to judge, every game is unique in its own way. And that makes gamers confused while choosing games.
So, in this article, I have brought the 6 best free adventure games on steam that you can install and play right away. All of these games are tried by myself and if I missed some good ones, let me know in the comment section. So, let’s get started.
If you are a fan of the portal games then I think gravitas is something you’ll probably enjoy it too. This game is a first-person puzzle-focused adventure platformer game that has a big focus on gravity manipulation. The story is centered around you and the curator guides you through the puzzles, and trust me, he is the most hilarious character you will come across.
The curator leads you through the game who won’t actually solve puzzles but helps you. The story and levels are honestly really impressive. And if you are a big fan of the portal series or want something similar then I highly recommend downloading this game and playing it though. It’s definitely worth your time.
2. Isle Of Ewe
Isle Of Ewe actually surprised me with how overall fun it was. The way you use the sheep in the game is also a huge reason why it’s on this list. The game’s premise is that you are on the search for your sheep who run away and you travel through a world that is impressively big. There are tons of puzzles and levels and so much to explore.
The game is all about how you can use your sheep. You can get through certain areas using your sheep as throwing objects and leverage. But you don’t just toss them around. There are puzzles where you have to use them and they are actually super fun. Although every now and then the controls will feel a little wonky, it is definitely worth checking out.
3. Lapso: Nimbo
Lapso: Nimbo is a pretty short and sweet game. I think the game has some pretty intriguing story elements and puzzles to say it’s much more than that. So the story is a little ambiguous but essentially your main protagonist is exploring a nature trail. She’s in search of someone and you slowly pick up little secrets along the way.
The graphics in the game are pretty incredible actually and I like it. Even though you can probably get through it in around two hours, I want to mention that the game is essentially a compressed version of the full-to-be-released game. But that shouldn’t turn you away. The game is well worth your time and you will really have a good time.
4. Bear Party: Adventure
Bear Party Adventure is a little more like a fast-paced shooter and less of a story-driven experience, but it has an adventure. You basically are a bear yourself and you are on a journey to meet a grand wizard to save your captured friends. The story is not the most impressive but the gameplay is awesome. It’s super fast-paced.
You can do huge bunny hops too like it’s a part of the core movement gameplay and it’s so fun to do. There are five maps in total and all of them are actually decent-sized. Little puzzles and secrets spread throughout that are fun to figure out. Honestly, I never got tired of the shooting and its fast-paced gameplay. You should definitely check out this.
5. La Rana
La Rana is a pretty nice-looking game with an interesting storyline. La Rana sets you as a little frog in a cursed and abandoned temple. Your goal is to explore the temple and solve the various puzzles too, in the end, restore life to the temple. It may not be the most engaging game but it has a cute little story and has a lot of charm to it.
The movement can get a little old and sluggish but honestly the game is filled with enough things to do and explore and things to do that you’ll never be bored with. The game is short but sweet. You are going to love this if you are a fan of adventure indie games.
6. Grimm’s Hollow
Grimm’s Hollow is a little bit of a different one from the rest on the list and I think a lot of people will love it. In this game, you are Lavender, a boy and you wake up in the afterlife in search of your brother. Then go through a whole adventure through this afterlife. You search haunted caves collecting spirits with your scythe and meeting all types of different characters.
It is a retro-type 2D RPG and adventure game and you have a surprising amount of content here. It’s got a really cute art style and the music is great too. Not only does the game look and sound great but it’s actually got a great story as well. It’s also extremely character-focused on lavender. If you haven’t played anything like this then you must try this out.
What is the best free adventure game?
In my opinion, Genshin Impact is the best free adventure game right now. You can also check out Gravitas on Steam.
