Windows don’t show the serial number of the PCs anywhere in the interface, neither does the device information software. However, it is often easy to find the serial number using Command Prompt, BIOS, or on any sticker on the hardware itself.
So, I am going to tell you 4 methods to check the serial number of your laptop. Let’s find out how you can do this.
1. Using Command Prompt
It is the easiest method and you can get the serial number with only one command. Here’s what you have to do.
- On the windows search, type “CMD”
- Right-click on the command prompt application and choose “Run as administrator”
- Type the command “wmic bios get serialnumber” and hit enter
- It will show you your Laptop’s serial number right away.
2. Using BIOS
This method can be a bit tricky because different laptop brands have different buttons to get into System BIOS. So, better google how you can enter BIOS on your device. Once you have booted your laptop into the BIOS, you have to look for the “Main” or “Information” tab, as it varies depending upon the device.
Under that, you have to find the “Serial number” written where you will find the serial number of the laptop. If you didn’t find the serial number in the Command prompt then you won’t find it here either. However, the BIOS method can be helpful if you are not able to sign in to windows for some reason.
3. Using the Sticker Under Your Laptop
There’s always a sticker under your laptop. Flip over your laptop and try to find the serial number in the sticker. Some brands print the serial number on the metal or plastic base on the laptop. If your laptop has a removable battery, then don’t forget to check the battery compartment, you might find the sticker there as well.
Note: Serial numbers are often shortened to just S/N or SN and can sometimes be referred to as serial codes.
4. Using the Product Box or the Receipts
Serial numbers as often printed on the boxes of your laptop. If you have the box, check it thoroughly to find the serial number printed on the box, or the sticker with the bar code. If you bought the laptop offline, the serial number may be printed on the physical receipts.
